I had the pleasure of capturing a Charity Gala for the 10-year anniversary of Addis Jemari, a local charity organization helping children in Ethiopia. In May of 2016, Addis Jemari was officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Raleigh, NC, with the mission to empower orphans, vulnerable children, and their families to end generational poverty. Every child deserves a healthy environment to grow and thrive; however, that’s not always the case. Sadly, there are over 4.5 million orphans in Ethiopia, and 70 percent of these children have been orphaned as a result of poverty. The organization works to empower the most vulnerable people in the communities to have a fresh start at a new life of hope and self-reliance. Additionally, every aspect of their work finds its roots in the belief that every family in Ethiopia has the right to thrive spiritually, socially, educationally, and economically.

Without a doubt, the evening was a grand celebration of Addis Jemari’s accomplishments over the last decade. The energy in the room was electric! Specifically, the casino games brought a lot of excitement. Over 200 guests gathered to celebrate and learn about the amazing plans the charity has for the next 10 years! They also raised $160,000 that evening to empower the vulnerable communities in Ethiopia.

Firstly, I focused on capturing the guests’ arrival. Then, I photographed the speakers on the stage, including guests’ reactions and the overall energy of the event. As the night progressed, I captured the guests enjoying the casino games. The night ended with a silent auction and an inspiring message of hope for the charity’s future plans. Without a doubt, it was an honor to capture this gala for such an extraordinary cause!
