Wake Forest Mini Sessions: Relaxed Family Photos You’ll Love for Years. If you are looking for Wake Forest mini sessions this fall, you are in the right place!
As a family photographer serving Wake Forest, Raleigh, and the surrounding Triangle, I love creating portraits that feel beautiful and polished while still capturing the real personality of each family. Mini sessions are a wonderful way to update your family photos without committing to a full-length photography session.
And if the thought of getting your entire family in front of a camera makes you nervous, don’t worry. After more than 10 years as a professional photographer, I have learned how to make families feel comfortable, keep children engaged, and create genuine smiles instead of forcing every moment.
My goal is simple: to give you a collection of photographs that includes both the classic portraits you need and the candid moments you will treasure.

Why Choose a Wake Forest Mini Session?
Life with children is busy. Between school, sports, activities, work, and everything else on the family calendar, finding time for professional family photos can feel like one more thing to organize.
That is one of the reasons I love mini sessions.
A Wake Forest family mini session gives you a shorter, focused photography experience while still allowing us to create a variety of beautiful images.
Mini sessions are especially wonderful for:
- Updating your annual family portraits
- Creating photos for holiday cards
- Capturing your children’s personalities
- Celebrating a new stage of childhood
- Creating gifts for grandparents
- Updating framed family photographs around your home
- Getting beautiful fall family photos without a long photo shoot
The shorter format also works particularly well for families with young children who may not want to spend an hour in front of the camera.
Your Family Does Not Have to Know How to Pose

One of the most common things I hear from clients is:
“We’re not good at taking pictures.”
You don’t have to be. That is my job!
I will guide you through the session so you are never left wondering where to stand, what to do with your hands, or how to get everyone looking at the camera.
We will create some classic, posed family portraits first. These are the photographs that work beautifully for holiday cards, frames, albums, and gifts.
Then I will introduce movement and interaction so we can capture the candid side of your family, too.
Maybe the children hold hands, walk together, maybe somebody tells a joke, and everyone laughs! Or kids give mom a hug etc.
Those little moments often become some of my favorite photographs from a session because they show your family exactly as you are right now. Wake Forest Mini Sessions: Relaxed Family Photos You’ll Love for Years.
Posed + Candid: The Best of Both

When I photograph families, I don’t believe you have to choose between posed portraits and candid photography.
I want you to have both.
A beautiful family portrait where everyone is looking at the camera is timeless. It is the photograph you will likely want to print large and display in your home.
But the candid images tell a different part of your story.
They capture the way your children interact with one another. The way they laugh. The little expressions that change so quickly as they grow.
That combination is what makes a family gallery feel complete.
During your Wake Forest mini session, I will guide you through poses while also giving your family opportunities to interact naturally. You don’t need to perform for the camera. Instead, I will create prompts and moments that allow genuine expressions and connections to happen.
Why Fall Is Perfect for Family Photos in Wake Forest

There is something especially beautiful about photographing families in North Carolina during the fall.
The changing leaves, warm afternoon light, and comfortable temperatures create a beautiful seasonal backdrop for family portraits.
Wake Forest also offers a variety of settings for family photography, from charming local areas to beautiful outdoor spaces with mature trees and seasonal color.
I look for locations that provide variety within a short distance so we can create several different looks during your mini session without spending the entire time walking from one spot to another.
The result is a gallery that feels more varied than you might expect from a short session.
What Makes My Wake Forest Family Photography Different?

I have been photographing people professionally for more than 10 years, and that experience makes a big difference when working with families.
Photographing children isn’t simply about knowing how to use a camera.
It is about knowing when to pose them, when to let them move, when to give them a break, and when to capture the moment happening naturally.
It is also about making parents feel comfortable.
You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what to do. I will guide you through the entire experience.
My photography style combines timeless portraits with natural, candid moments. I want your photographs to feel beautiful years from now rather than overly trendy.
Most importantly, I want your children to look like themselves.
What Should You Wear for Your Wake Forest Mini Session?

One of the easiest ways to create cohesive family portraits is to coordinate your outfits rather than having everyone wear exactly the same thing.
For fall family photos, I love soft, neutral and earthy colors such as:
- Cream
- Beige
- Brown
- Camel
- Soft blue
- Muted greens
- Warm neutrals
- Subtle floral patterns
These colors photograph well and are very popular! But if you would like to incorporate reds and greens because your photos will be primarly used for a Holiday Card, that’s a great idea too!!
Think about textures and layers, too. Sweaters, dresses, boots, cardigans, and other seasonal pieces can add visual interest without distracting from your family.
I also recommend avoiding large logos, neon colors, and extremely busy patterns. Wearing patterns can be a bit tricky. If you love busy patterns I would stick with one person wearing it, but everyone else choose someting more plain. This way,the clothing won’t distract and take away from your family’s beautiful faces!
And remember: comfortable is important. If your child is uncomfortable in an outfit, it will probably show in the photographs. But, do not get me wrong! I do not mean wear jeans and a t-shirt for your family photos! Sure, it is comfortable, but dressing up a bit will definitely look better!
You Don’t Need Perfectly Behaved Children

This might be the most important thing I can tell parents before a family photography session.
Your children do not have to behave perfectly.
They are children.
They may be shy when we begin, or may want to run around. Perhaps they may make silly faces or they suddenly decide they don’t want to smile at all. And that’s okay!
With more than a decade of experience photographing families, I have learned that some of the best photographs happen when we stop trying to make everything perfect.
Instead of stressing about getting the perfect smile, I focus on connection.
I will guide your family, keep things moving, and look for those genuine moments that show your children’s personalities. Maybe today you are looking for a perfect smile and a “looking at the camera” kind of picture, but years from now you might love the imperfect photos and real facial expressions that your child had at that time of their life.
Wake Forest Mini Sessions for Families Who Want Beautiful, Natural Photos
If you have been putting off family photos because you don’t think your children will cooperate or because you feel uncomfortable in front of the camera, I would love to change that experience for you.
My Wake Forest mini sessions are designed to be relaxed, efficient, and fun.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t need to make your children smile on command.
And you don’t need to spend an entire afternoon taking pictures.
You simply need to show up with your family. I’ll take care of the rest.
We will create a combination of timeless portraits and candid photographs that capture your family during this particular season of life.
Because someday, these photographs won’t just be pictures from a fall mini session.
They will remind you how small your children were. How they held hands, how they smiled or how they looked at you or one another.
And exactly what your family felt like during this chapter of your lives.
